Time it takes for the earth to rotate once about its axis = 23 hours 56 minutes.

Time for the earth to complete one orbit of the sun = 365 1/4 days

A solar day = 24 hours

time for the moon to move across the sky once




umbra = when the earths full shadow falls on the earth, a total eclipse is seen.

What? How can the earth's shadow fall on the earth?
