  • If we hang small weights from a spring it will strech. The increase in length from the orginal is called the extension. When we remove the weights the spring will return to its orginal length.
  • Objects and materials that behave in this way are called elastic.
  • An elastic object is one that regains its orginal shape when the forces deforming it are removed.
