Steps in loading the OS:

• When computer is started RAM is empty. BIOS [Basic Input Output System] is loaded. The BIOS is very small, stored in ROM or EPROM and just points to the BOOTLOADER on the HARD DISC.
• Bootloader loaded into RAM from Location 0 on HARD DISC.
• This loads the KERNEL, heart of OS, into RAM.
