Investigative psychology-

This is where statistical procedures, alongside psychological theory, are applied to the analysis of crime scene evidence. This is to establish patterns of behaviour across crime scenes in order to develop a statistical 'database' which then acts as a baseline for comparison. Specific details about the offence can then be matched against the database to reveal important details about the offender, such as their personal history, family background etc. This may also determine whether a series of offences are linked or committed by the same person.
