Body cells are diploid. A diploid cell has two sets of chromosomes- One set from the “mother” and one from the “father”. Mitosis makes two identical daughter cells; the nucleus of each new cell contains the same number of chromosomes as the original cell.

Multicellular organisms use mitosis to grow or to replace cells that have been damaged. Some use it to reproduce (asexual reproduction). You can calculate the number of cells there will be after multiple divisions of a cell by doing 2n. “n” is the number of divisions by mitosis.
