Buddhism is approx 2500 years old 

founded in around 6th century BCE

founded by Prince Siddartha Gatauma

He saw 4 things which changed him: old man, sick man, dead man, holy man

he then decided to seek answers to suffering so he shaved his head, dressed in simple clothes and went out into the world

first he spent some time with 5 monks who would starve themselves because they believed that by neglecting the body you would then consider it less important 

Siddartha disagreed and believed that you should find a middle-ground between giving and taking 

the monks then left him as they thought he was too 'wimpy' (they disagreed with his views 

He then found a Bodhi Tree (Tree of wisdom) which he meditated under and achieved enlightenment
