• Can't see chromosomes

Prophase:

• Nuclear envelope breaks down
• Chromosomes are now visable and are coiled
• Centrioles split into 2 and move to opposite poles and form spindle fibres
• Collectively these spindle fibres are called spindle apparatus
• Nucleolus dissapears
• Nuclear envelope breaks down leaving chromosomes free in the cytoplasm of the cell
