Prophase:
- Nuclear envelope breaks down
- Chromosomes are now visable and are coiled
- Centrioles split into 2 and move to opposite poles and form spindle fibres
- Collectively these spindle fibres are called spindle apparatus
- Nucleolus dissapears
- Nuclear envelope breaks down leaving chromosomes free in the cytoplasm of the cell
