Ethical Issues

Ethics are beliefs about what is right and wrong. Ethical comittees are there to make sure ethical guidelines are followed when sociological research is undertaken. Ethical values should influence every part of the research process.

Informed Consent -

Ensuring the participant has all the information they need about the research in order to allow them to make an primed decision of whether they want to take part. The researcher should give the aim, purpose and content of the research. However, giving them this information may compramise the results as they may act in a way which means the findings are not reliable or valid. To stop this, some information may be witheld.
