Mary's choice of Husbands


-Mary did not purse marriage alliances with France, or Spain after 1561, missing an opportunity to force Catholic rule on Scotland

-Elizabeth advised Mary to marry Lord Duckley, but Mary married Lord Darnely which annoyed Elizabeth

-Mary overlooked Darnley's poor character- drunk, violent, jealous, went with prostitues

-Mary and Darnley married in a Catholic ceremony, which drew criticism from John Knox

- Darnley was extremely unpopular with the nobles

- Mary had promised Darnley would be King- but she withdrew her promise

- Darnley's bad behaviour left many such as tolksfolk unable
