P romotion by word of mouth or advertising

Hard Sell:

  • a HS advertisment has a simple and direct message about the product it's advertising
  • this is usually called the UNIQUE SELLING PROPOSITION (USP)
  • the HS approach can be used to advertise functional products like a rucksack

Controversial Advertising:

  • the Italian company Benetton has long used controversial advertisments in the form of shocking images like the slogan of 'UNITED COLOURS OF BENETTON' alongside pictures of a priest kissing a nun, dying…
