Background

The Maldives is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. The Maldives are home to several ecosystems, but are most famous for their variety of coral reefs. The fishing industry contributes to 15% of the country’s GDP. Tourism contributes to 28% of the GDP. Due to the low-lying ground, farming is impossible. Due to sea level rise due to global warming, the Maldives are the third most endangered country due to flooding from global warming.
