Factors Affecting Ionisation Energy

  • Size of nuclear charge - the more protons in the nucleaus, the stronger the attraction of electrons so you need a larger ionisation energy.
  • Distance of the electrons from the nucelus - attraction falls off very rapidly with distance, so the moe distance the less ionisation energy required.
  • Shielding affected by the electrons in the inner field - inner shells repel the outer shells thereby reducing
