The Language of the 2016 Presidential Election

Introduction

The 2016 presidential election, probably the most widely spoken about election of all time, brought to light many issues relating to how we utilise language to talk about high profile figures like Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. From the media, to the supporters and to Trump and Clinton themselves, everyone has an opinion on the election and this is why I wish to investigate the way language is used to represent these two politicians.

Methodology

To aid my investigation, I will select a few articles which I think raise interesting linguistic points. I will look at the language they utilise throughout the election and consider why certain linguistic features are used. I will analyse the way the media represents each candidate but also analyse the way each candidate represents his or her opponent.
