Strength: supported by research evidence - McGeoch and McDonald
McGeoch and McDonald (1931) found that when participants were given two similar lists of words, they were less likely to remember the original lists than when given two different lists of words. There are numerous lab studies that support this. It proves the theory that inference can result in the loss of old memories.
