"I sometimes think if we knew all, we should be more glad to get away." - Dr. Lanyon
This explains that when Lanyon finds out what Jekyll has been up to, he no longer wishes to live. The immorality of Jekyll's experiment was to much to bear for Lanyon, and he was sad that his long time friend was just not the same person that he used to be. This is a sad realization of the truth for Lanyon, who sees that he can no longer be happy in this life, and that his time with his friends are over.
