HUMAN BIOLOGY Unit 8.1

What is Mitosis?

Mitosis is basically the process in cell division where the nucleus divides. It consists of 4 stages: PROPHASE, METAPHASE, ANAPHASE, TELAPHASE.

In mitosis the daughter cell (the new cell made) is  EXACTLY the same as the parent cell (they are clones of eachother!!)

CHROMOSOME STRUCTURE..

YOU ALREADY KNOW: Human cell contains 2 metres of DNA, but this is divided up into 46 Chromosomes.

Interphase: In interphase the cell is not dividing!! Instead, its carrying out all the other jobs it needed to do. HOWEVER.. DNA replicates during interphase, but we can't see anything actually happening because the DNA is unwound and spread out in the Nucleus.
