Why are earthquakes common in some parts of the world? (4)

Plate Boundaries:

  • Destructibe plate boundary - oceanic plate subducts underneath continental plate as it is heavier causing pressure at the mantle to build up and release when pressure gets released in the form of seismic waves e.g Phillipines where Phillipines plate is subducted underneath the eurasion plate.
