A form of plasticity. Following damage through trauma, the brain's ability to redistribute or transfer functions usually performed by a damaged area(s) to other, undamaged area(s).
- Following a physical injury such as a stroke the unaffected areas of the brain can adapt and compensate for those damaged.
- Neuroscientist suggest this can happen quickly after trauma and slow down afetr several weeks.
- This is when the person may require rehabilitative therapy
