Becoming Human: 

• Nature vs Nurture:

◦Our biological nature tells us 'instinctively' what we should do. Instincts are something we are born with rather than something we learn. 

◦People vary in their genetic makeup and this might explain why they behave differently. 

◦Sociologists accept that humans have natural reflexes and certain biological needs but that human nature is too complex and diverse to be explained in simple biological and genetic terms. 

◦Our actions can be seen as a result of our social and cultural environments, the way we are nurtured. Our culture teaches us how we should think and behave.

• Feral Children: 

◦People become fully human only when they are socialised into the culture of a society.
