Ouwash plains are found in front of the glaciers snout and are deposited by the metwater streams which  issue from the ice. They consist of material that have have been broufght down by the glacier and then picked up,sorted and dropped by running beyond the position of the ice front.

The coarset material travels the shortest distance and therefor found near the glaicer.Than the finer material eg clay travels a short istance across the plain before being deposited. 

The deposits are also layered vertically,which shows the seasonal flow of meltwater streams.
