Attachment behaviour is learnt through classical and operant conditioning - according to Dollard and MIller secondary drive test

classical conditioning (learning through association)- Ivan pavlov used his dog to come up with a scientific equation:

child gets pleasure by being fed: food UCS, pleasure UCR

child associates food with caregiver: primary caregiver NS, associated with food UCS

attachment learned, child gains pleasure when primary caregiver present: caregiver CS, food CR
