English - Formal and informal language.

These two following sentences;

• Do please take a chair.
• Plonk yourself down there, mate, and take the weight off your feet.

Imply the same information, yet the choice of language is a way of showing the relationship between the two people concerned. The first sentence, the formality of the language suggests that they do not know each other very well. The informality of the second sentence suggests that the people concerned know each other well.
