Strength - large sample size increases internal validity (van Ijzendoorn and Kroonenberg)
Overall, van Ijzendoorn and Kroonenburg analysed almost 2000 babies and their carers. The Italian (Simonella et al) and Korean (Jin et al) studies also had large sample sizes. This means that results are more reliable and likely to apply to the general population and also increases the internal validity of the study by reducing the impact of anomalous results

Weakness - comparisons between countries may have little real meaning
Within any country there are many different cultures with different child-rearing practices. For example, in Britain, some communities may be more collectivist whilst some may be more individualist. Comparisons between countries may have little meaning unless the particular cultural characteristics and parenting style are specified
