Cooking and Chemical Changes
Some foods have to be cooked so that they are safe to eat
Some methods of cooking food:
- Boiling
- Steaming
- Frying
- Grilling
This can happen in an oven or microwave or such other appliances
Food has a better taste and texture when cooked
Some foods are easier to digest (flour, potatoes)
High temperatures kill off microbes
Some foods are poisonous unless cooked (red kidney beans)
Cooking food = new substances
Chemical change has happened
Cooking process is irreversible
