Cold war - A war that never reaches actual fighting. Can include spying, suspicion, proxy war, aggressive military actions and preparation for war.

Proxy war - A war instigated by a major power which does not become involved. For example, Vietnam and Afghanistan.

Cold war began after WW2 ended in 1945.

SPACE RACE - Each side (USA & Russia) wanted to win the space race as it was very effective propaganda. It began with a race to launch the first satellite, then the first man in space and finally to get the first man on the moon.
