1: Mosses and Lichens: Pioneer species establish on bare surfaces containing little water. They obtain nutrients from a combination of photosynthesis and nutrients resulting from the acid weathering of the surface material (e.g concrete). Decomposition of dead matter leaves a thin, unconsolidated layer of organic matter

2: Oxford ragwort, budlea, dandelion: These establish in sheltered cracks where dust can accumulate and seeds are trapped. This material allows them to root.

Yeah good overal outline, no other site i found was quite as clear in describing what this all was. Once you learn this its easier to find other sites that help expland :)
