Chromatography

This is a method of separating substances in a mixture. This can be used for separtaing different dyes and inks.

1) Draw a line near the bottom of the filter paper- This should be done in pencil as the pencil marks are insoluble and wont dissolve in the solvent.

2) Add a spot of ink onto the pencil line and place the sheet into a solvent e.g. water or ethanol
