Key Dates to remember

1776 4th July: Declaration of independence from Britain by the 13th American Colonies following the outbreak of the hostilities in April 1775. 

1784: Pitt's India Act formalises government control over the East India company's rule over India.

1788: 26th January - First fleet sails into Botany Bay 

1805: 21st October - British fleet defeats the combined French and Spanish navies at the Battle of Trafalgar. 

1807: 25th March Abolition of Slave Trade act passes in the British parliament, making it illegal to engage in the African slave trade through British colonies. 

1815: 18th June - defeat of the French at Waterloo ushers in nearly four decades of of peace…
