Brain abnormalities in murderers - Raine et al

Classic study 

-pps consisted of 2 groups of 41 people, 39 males & 2 females, experimental group were 41 criminals convicted of murder or manslaughter, being tested to gain evidence to support NGRI - Not guilty by reason of insanity, all pps remained medication - free for 2 weeks before the scan 

-the control group matched with the experimental group on age & gender, all screened for general health, consent was obtained 

-all pps gave a continuous performance task to complete, started this 10 minutes before being injected with FDG, further 32 minutes PET scan was done to measure metabolic rate in different areas of the brain to look at activity levels 

-results showed brain dysfunction in NGRI group in areas linked to
