Genetic Modification
WHERE A GENE FROM ONE ORGANISM IS TRANFERRED TO ANOTHER
- organism of transferred gene will produce a protein using instructions in that gene
- possible because all organisms use the same genetic code
Stages of genetic modification:
- gene wanted is isolated (position on source DNA is identified)
- useful gene is replicated
- each copied gene is joined to a vector (a carrier for the gene) ---> plasmids and viruses are often used
- these vectors are transferred into new…
