In most natural communities, there are both predators and prey. However, the numbers of each of these fluctuate as they interact with each other.

The predators hunt the prey, and as they do so, they are leaving less of that prey in the area to reproduce. Therefore, the prey population decreases.

But as the prey population decreases, the predators have less to feed on, and so their population falls too.
