Marriage for a athenian girl would of been aranged when she reached puberty by her kyrios. The kyrios would find a appriopate groom and then agree on a dowry which is a amount of money paid to a prospective groom by the brides family. The dowry is significant because it was intented to compensate the grooms family for the expense of providing for his bride the dowry would help to protect his bride and if the groom wanted a divorce he would have to return the dowry.This encouraged men not to mistreat their wives or divorce without a good reason…
