Prokaryotic & Eukaryotic Cells

  • Prokaryotic organisms are prokaryotic cells (i.e they're single celled organisms) and eukaryotic organisms are made up of eukaryotic cells.
  • Eukaryotic cells are complex and include all animal and plant cells
  • Prokaryotic cells are smaller and simpler e.g. bacteria
  • Both types of cells contain organelles - parts of cells with each one having a specific function

Plant & Animal cells - Eukaryotic

  • Plant cells have the same organelles as animal cells but also some additions:
  • Cell wall with plasmodesmata (holes for exchanging substances with adjacent cells)
  • Vacuole - compartment containing cell sap
  • Chloroplasts
