Dissolved substances will move via diffusion (along a concentration gradient) or via active transport ( againts a concentration gradient)
ACTIVE TRANSPORT.
- When substances are absorbed against a concentration gradient.
- Requires energy from respiration.
- Allows cells to absorb ions from dilute solution.
For example when root hair cells absorb mineral ions from the soil against a concentration grandient.
