Chemisrty C7: Alcohols
Introduction:
Alcohols are a family of organic compunds.
They all contain the functional group -OH.
Alcohols all share two chemical properties. These are that they all burn and they all react with sodium.
The Alcohols:
The names of the first four alcohols are:
Methonal
Ethonal
Propanol
Butrol
Just remeber:
- Monkeys = Methanol
- Eat = Ethonal
- Peanut = Propanol
- Butter = Butrol
After this, they continue with the start of the name the same as the number.
E.g. 5 is pentanol, 6 is hexanol, 7 is heptanol, 8 is octanol etc.
