• Under act of Exchange Queen Elizabeth  had right to trade church property in her possession for temporal ( non-spiritual )  land in the church’s possession

• Limited value assets such as rectories, churches + rights to tithe’s were exchanged 4 more valuable things .i.e. castles and manors

• Church lost considerable wealth

• Protestant laymen didn’t like Catholic bishops  coz of their rigour in stamping out Protestantism during the Marian era.

• Cutting wealth of bishops esp thro church lands great way of curtailing power + influence

• AOE also affected how bishops dealt with their land
