Economic Methodology

Social Science:

  • Social sciences look for relationships between events to explain human activity. People are central to the study of social sciences but indervidual people don't always behave in predictable ways so are not easily controllable variables and some variables may be difficults to isolate. Social Sciences include Anthropology, Politics, Psychology, Sociology, Economics and are sometimes refered to as soft sciences
  • Economics is considered a science because Economists create theories and models, prove hypotheses using statistical data and organise experiments. However, as it is rare for economists to conduct experiments they aren't pure scientists.

  • Can be tested to see if they are true or false by looking at the avaliable evidence
  • Can be a hypothesis
