GCE Economics Grading System
The AS qualification will be graded on Unit 1: ECON1 Unit 2: ECON2 Unit 3: ECON3 Unit 4: ECON4

the A Level qualification will be graded

on a six point scale (A*, A, B, C, D,

minimum standard for a grade E will

not receive a qualification certificate.
Grade A* is reported only for the

are reported on a uniform mark scale

shown in these tables.
In each unit, a candidate's uniform AS qualification A Level qualification
mark is calculated from his/her raw (Maximum uniform mark=200) (Maximum uniform mark=400)
mark by using the grade boundaries
set by the awarding committee. For Uniform mark range Grade Uniform mark range Grade
example, a candidate who achieved
the minimum raw mark required for 160-200 A See note A*
grade B on ECON1 receives a uniform

A candidate's total uniform mark for 120-139 C 280-319 B
the AS qualification is obtained by
adding together the uniform marks 100-119 D 240-279 C
for the two AS units. A candidate's
total uniform mark for the A Level 80-99 E 200-239 D
qualification is obtained by adding
together the uniform marks for all 0-79 U 160-199 E
units. If the candidate has re-taken a
0-159 U
unit, the best uniform mark is used.
Note: Grade A* is awarded to
candidates who have gained at least
320 uniform marks on the A Level as
a whole and a total of at least 180
uniform marks on the A2 units.
