3.4 Contraception
Contraception in Britain and World
- Use of contraception in modern society is widespread.
- Availability allows couples to plan their families, women to lead working independent lives
- Planet population will increase to 9 billion
- Contraception is a way of reducing this
- United Nations promotes birth control to reduce poverty in developing countries where overpopulation stretches local resources
Different Forms
1. Artificial Contraception
- Acts as a barrier to new life
- Condom=physical barrier between sperm and egg
- Contraceptive Pill= chemical barrier preventing ovulation.
- Very Reliable
2. Emergency Contraception
- Aka Morning after pill
- Form of artificial contraception
- Taken up to 3 days after sex
- Stops production of egg from implanting into uterus lining
3. Natural Family Planning/Contraception
- Only form of contraception promoted by the Roman Catholic Church
- Given by God to help a couple plan a family
- Should not be used to completely…
