The Truman Doctrine

• American policy which meant that the USA began to proide countries who were under threat of Communist takeover with money, equipment and advice
  
  
• This policy was announced by Harry Truman on March 12th, 1957
  
  
• Truman wanted to ensure that Communism wouldn't spread further than east Europe.
  
  
• The policy became known as containment 

Stalin saw this as an attack on Communism so this caused tension.
