Stages Of Sleep

Stage 1

In this stage, you have very light sleep and can be easily woken up. Your muscles are not very active, the movement of your eyes are slow and you may twitch suddenly. There are two brain waves that you have during this stage, these include; alpha (restful) and theta (characterise a period btween wake and sleep.

Stage 2

This is the stage were your brain waves are slower and your eye movement stop. Your brain bursts with activity and body tempertures start to drop, whilst your heart rate starts to slow down. This stage is found as you move into sleep from light sleep.

Stage 3

This stage is between light and deep sleep. You will have slow delta brain waves but there may also be faster waves.

Stage 4

The waves in this stage are almost all slow delta waves. In this sleep it is very hard to wake someone up because this is deep sleep. In deep sleep, children can experience sleep walking and night terrors. There are no movements of the eye when asleep and when woken up you can feel disorientated.
