Functionalists view of Education

The function of education is to act as a means of promoting consensus by socialising people into the norms that are seen to be important in a particular society.

They examine how schools help promote a 'consensual' society.

Education:

Meets the economic needds of society by creating a skilled, literate, hard-working workforce.

Selects and allocates roles for people, according to their ability in the classroom

It promotes a sense of national identity - through subjects such as history & english.
