Primary v Secondary Qualities

Locke

This distinguishes between the qualities of an object that belong to itself and those found in perception:

PRIMARY QUALITIES: e.g. solidity, extention, figure, motion or rest, number etc.

SECONDARY QUALITIES: e.g. bulk, figure, texture, colours, sounds, tastes etc.
