Nurse in The Crimean War - Lady with the Lamp
Believed God had called her to be a nurse
She laid the foundations of a nurse training school in London in 1860
Was born into a rich upper class family. She rebeled against being the 'typical stay at home woman' despite her parents wishes
Her and 38 volunteer nurses went to Crimea (trained by herself)
She found bad conditions - people on the floor, no food, disease spread, infections common, un-trained staff
Collected information to prove it and gave it to the Royal commision on the health of the army
