Quick Response Manufacturing

Objective - increase the flexibility of a firm and responsiveness

It is a flow production - meaning the company responds to actual demands rather than planning for an expected demands that may or may not occur.

It make use of:

Pull Process - materials will be pulled through the production process according to the demand TQM (total quality management) JIT (just in time) - so production will begin as soon as an order is received - suppliers will deliver raw materials directly to the production line Manufacturing cells

Production teams - which can be quickly and efficiently re-allocated if the requirements change (e.g. change in consumers taste) - therefore flexiblity has been increased and so it will be in a better position to react and to meet changing demand.

No excess products are manufactured - only that are required (learn the advantages and disadvantages)
