Motor area

Controls voluntary movement on the opposite side of the body.

Located at the ​backside of the frontal lobe

Damage to this area causes: 

- Loss of control in fine motor skills (use fewer muscles)

- Paralysis

Somatosensory area

Sensory information from the skin is processed, the sensitivity depends on a specific body part (i.e receptors for our face, skin, temperature & touch)

Located at the ​right front side of the parietal lobe

Damage to this area causes:

Loss of sense of touch - might not be able to feel pain

Visual area

Processes visual information, the right eye sends information to the left visual field and the left eye sends information to the right visual field.

Located at the backside of the occipital lobe

Damage to this area can cause: 

Loss of sight

Can experience blind/hallucination

Wernicke's area

Responsible for language comprehension.

Located at the left temporal lobe. 

Damage can cause: 

- Wernicke's aphasia: when an individual says nonsense words 

- Difficulty understanding words

Auditory area

Analyses speech-based information.

Located at the left side of the temporal lobe

Damage can cause:

- Partial hearing loss - the more extensive the damage, the more extensive the hearing loss.

Broca's area

Responsible for speech production.

Located at the left frontal lobe

Damage to this area can cause:

- Broca's aphasia: lack of ability to speak fluently & clearly

- Difficulty forming words & sentences
