Socialism - a political and economic theory of social organisation which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.
‘Big government’ - Education, health, housing, recreation, jobs, social welfare/care - provided by the government
Nationalisation - Government ownership of industry, e.g. British Telecom used to be owned by the government and was funded by taxes.
Workers rights - Decent pay for a decent days work, safe working conditions, shorter working days, health provision for workers etc.
Social Welfare - Citizens all working together for the common good. Employment, social care and recognition that some citizens need to be helped within society.
Focus on the ‘less well off’ in society
Equality - Everyone in society deserves equal treatment and a good standard of living
Focus on NEETs (Not in Education Employment or Training) as a group that needs support from the government

Right Wing
Capitalism - an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.
Free enterprise - Citizens use their intelligence and financial skill to create products and sell them without interference from the government.
Privatisation - Industry owned by individuals and share-holders
‘Market forces’ - Buyers and sellers influence directly things such as price, quantity of of product wanted by the people etc. (If very few people want it, it will be cheap, if lots of people want it, the seller can choose the price. Supply and Demand)
‘No such thing as society’ - Don’t blame ‘society’ for problems. Problems are caused by individuals.
Entrepreneurs - Very skilful and profitable business people. (Richard Branson, Deborah Meaden)
