How did King John become King?

King John became king because of his father (King Henry's) death. King John was not a very liked man and most people agreed with these statements

"John was a thoroughly bad lot. He was cruel and beastly.He had many enemies and he killed people with his bare hands. He was the worst King ever to sat on the English Throne"

"His punishments were cruel: the starvation of children, the crushing of old men under copes of lead his court was a brothel where no woman was safe from the royal lust. He scoffed at priests.

Who liked King John

There was a couple of people who liked King John and this is a statement from them: 

"John tried hard to be a good King. He visited all parts of England and was merciful to helpless people - the poor, the widowed and the children, but he was untrustworthy and a poor soldier who had lost the war with France
