The individual differences approach

The individual differences approach states that all individuals are different in terms of personality and abnormality and we cannot make genuine comparisons between people. It is useful in identifying abnormalities and reasearching them too.

Strenghts of the individual differences approach

:-) idiographic approach meaning that it focuses on what makes us unique rather than nomothetic which focuses on common features and similarities between individuals.

:-) is very useful for example the rosenhan study which inforns us of how badly paturnts are diagnosed and treated and threfore gives hospitals an idea to diagnose prooerly and how patients should be treated.

:-) psychometric tests the provide accurate and relaible data which can easily be analysed so that similarities and differences could be found - used  in Thigpen and cleckly
