Reaganomics -
Cut welfare programme spending
Slashed taxes in 1981 ERTA (Economic Recovery Tax Act)
Medicare benefits were cut (Elderly had to pay more for health care)

He had more fallers than successes
Successes = Beat the war on drugs
Failers = Reaganomics, increased government spending, nation dept rose, people lost jobs, inflation soared, Stock Market Crash in 1987,Star Wars was expensive.

Poverty, Inequality and deprivation

Civil Rights - Apointed Thurgood Marshall as Americas first black federal judge, he also introduced the civil rights bill

The Economy - Introduced a $900 million public work program to build roads and public transport, He cut taxes to encourage people to buy more goods.

Social - He planned a new medical care system, the social security act of 1962 gave help to the elderly and unemployed. The housing act 1961 and the area redevelopment act 1961.

The Great Society

Civil rights - The civil right act 1964, the voting act 1965, 1967 mixed marriage law was uplifted.

Economy - Cut taxes, helped business' (created jobs), improved railways and highways

Social - The medical care act 1965 provided for elderly and poor,the Education act 1965, model cities act 1966 provided houses and wage increase for the poor.

President Nixon

Richard Nixton 1969-74

The Watergate Scandal -
1968 the republicans were elected
Nixton wanted to be re elected
A group called CREEP (Committee to Re-Elect the President) was formed
In 1972 Creep broke into the democratic watergate headquarters,planted bugs in there offices and stole copies of secret documents
This would help Nixton know what the democrates were planning
In May 1972 evidence came up that Nixton and his team had committed a crime
To try and cover this up Nixton tried to pay hush money to the burglars
The writers of the Washington Post discovered that Nixton was behind all of the watergate tapes
On August 5 th Nixton released the tapes (they found that bits were missing) this was still undenable evidence
Nixton resigned August 8 th (he is the first American president to resign)
Vice President Ford stepped up immediately

George Herbert Walker Bush 1989-93

Successes - Americans with disbilities (Act of 1990) ,Clean Air Act 1990, interest and inflation rates the lowest in years

Failers - Drug policy little effect for lots of money, Race Riotsin LA, Alanta, Increased indirect taxes, unemployement 7.8% highest since 1984, 14.2% Americans in poverty

He was faced with the problems Reagan had created

William Jefferson Clinton (Bill Clinton) -1993 to 2001
Clinton had way more successes than failers

Successes- Reduced the huge, longest period of economic growth, unemployement rate at its lowest, high levels of home ownership, free trade agreements were made.

Failers - Involvement in scandals,health care act
